Battle Deadline + Behind the Scene

This is an art school where students bring their animation to life. In order to graduate each students must create an animated short within given amount of time. But meeting that deadline is not a simple task.

This is my final film at Calarts as BFA 4.
Bunch of thanks to everybody who helped and supported me along the way make this film possible!

Here are some behind the scene stuff!
This year, I had the wonderful opportunity to work with so many students at Calarts. Though I had many help with live action, for animation I had to do most of it, excluding CG. It was a lot of work, planning, organizing, problem solving, so on and on. I cannot lie, there were moments where I knew I bit off more than I can chew. This film was only possible with everybody who helped and supported me along the way.

T, the guy in the teal V neck, is teaching all the actors how to swagger down the Hallway for Scene 2.
Many of Live action I made here at Calarts starts off with T swaggering down the hallway.

Majority of filming was done during late at night or weekends in the school.

This is why we film on weekends. Cleaning this up was a lotta fun too.

Here's the Crunch Time Monster stop motion puppet during the shoot.
This was my first time animating stop motion. It was very difficult indeed. It was my first time making the
puppet as well. That didn't help. The arms were flimsy which made animating frustrating at times.

After getting the shape of the monster. I covered the entire thing with papers and added
details.

I had a lot of fun making and animating this guy. (Raya's stop motion character)

Unlike other wire armatures, I used Lego for this armature. The metal ball and socket stuff for

way too expensive for me. So instead I used lego Bionicle stuff, haha. Sounds pretty silly but it

worked pretty well. Except, of course the puppet had to be very light.

Concept Art, which was also used for film prop. (Ignore the writings, they mean nothing. I had to write something so in the distance it looks like Raya's been researching, taking notes for the film character she's creating.)

Majority of the papers flailing up in the air is done with little cut outs of papers blown upward by a fan.

One of the bigger challenge with animation was
drawing and animating various styles.

All but one resists...

I always loved the intro from Casino Royale and wanted to make my own. And here it is, made at Calarts fro the 48 hour film event!

Here it is, I wanted to make something with a dog in it.
This year I wanted to explore more of the sincere. It was difficult to relate myself to the work during pre-production since I never owned a dog my whole life. With this year's film I think I learned the most so far at Calarts. Lot's of thanks goes to David Wolter's film workshop.
